QtDesktop is specifically an effort centralized around "core" desktop apps which are not/should not be provided by LXQt. Things you would find in a default distribution, this kind of thing.
Also, QtDesktop is meant to centralize the development, which qt-apps.org does not do (and seriously, that site is awful). J.
