Bottom line: it's not that easy on Gentoo :-( They're still on Qt4 and lxqt recently made a move to Qt5. You can try to add the qt overlay and manually unmask the required Qt5 packages - but that's not the end to the story. I had to explicitly unmask certain use flags in the cmake ebuild ...
