Well biggest advantage is the instant notification of changes + reads
are faster, yes + root can forbid value/keys to be changed - e.g kiosk
mode,

I have some experience in the gsettings-qt qt area, but the question
is, is that the direction lxqt would want to go in the future?

What's the advantage for introducing dconf if unix config files work very well?
We evaluated this option months ago, but current code works.
So nobody tries to touch this part, but I'm not against it.
