Hi linux graphics experts,

suppose you want write a linux-based kiosk application (infotainment
display) that will be installed all around the country.

From your central support site you need to login to the remote sites
and check that the remote display is working fine (ie. watch the
running presentation on the remote display).

Videos (mpeg etc.), audio, still images (jpg/png etc.), and
simple image animations (like fading etc.) shall be made possible
on the remote devices.

The devices are small fanless little boxes (for example Raspberry Pi)
running with linux, attached to a display for the public viewers.

Remote login via ssh and administration via text-console is no problem,
but one also needs to see what is momentarily running on the remote display,
and whether everything is ok on the display.

What would be the best solution for this? Is a desktop like LXDE
necessary on the remote device?

Which program should be used for viewing of the remote display?
(vnc, rdp ?)

How would you solve this problem?
Are there any open-source projects in that direction?

Thx for sharing your ideas
Uenal
