Since Debian Stretch is close to release, it is in a freeze state, at this state there is a strict policy which changes may be considered to allow inclusion into it, and only changes which makes package at least partially unusable, would be considered. Mentioned problem is a great inconvenience, sure, but it does not make lxterminal unusable as a whole so this change may be considered only for the next Debian release, i.e. Buster.
