I am not so familiar with technical details much. I personally prefer
GTK2 better. Just having issues with GNOME apps as a normal user. Maybe
not related to LXDE directly but GNOME mandates adwaita theme on their
GTK3 apps and causing weird look and issues on LXDE most of times. They
keep updating to GTK3+ and breaking things.

Strictly speaking, all LXDE parts works just OK with GTK+3. Although
GTK+3 itself is buggy sometimes. And also keep in mind that GTK+3 is much
less resource efficient than GTK+2, it's why GTK+2 is still preferrable
on small systems such as Raspberry Pi. Actually, I was basically out of
development for last 2 years due to personal issues and I hope to get to
it soon, and I have plans to make both GTK+2 and GTK+3 based packages in
Debian co-exist so users may choose which one to use.
