I know this is not a development question, but how do I change the user
agent string in Lynx 2.8.5/GNU linux such that every time I start lynx,
it stays the same. I read the man page, the online manual, and looked
in the lynx.cfg file to no effect. Going to the [O]ptions menu and
changing it there is not persistent across browser restarts and I cannot
get to the key-based menu described in the help file.
The data would be saved into $HOME/.lynxrc (if you save the results in the
Options menu. Perhaps you did not check the box for save-to-disk.
Before this would work, he would have to set:
ENABLE_LYNXRC:useragent:ON
in lynx.cfg. Otherwise, useragent would not be saved.
ok - and if it's not set, there is a "(!)" marker on the line in the
options menu indicating that it is readonly.
For instance I have these in my lynx.cfg:
ENABLE_LYNXRC:tagsoup:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:assume_char_set:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:display:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:make_pseudo_alts_for_inlines:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:make_links_for_all_images:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:raw_mode:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:scrollbar:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:set_cookies:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:show_kb_rate:on
ENABLE_LYNXRC:useragent:on
(The options menu doesn't show another marker for the enabled items,
so I forgot that I'd enabled some).
