Well, the keyword is 'text'.
Lynx is a text-mode browser and search engines index the web mainly
through -text-.
So, through lynx you see the web in a similar way as search engines do.
That is all, there is no big deal, no power involved.

For instance, if your site is built around javascript or flash, in lynx
you will not see much. The same could be true for a searchengine.
