Gentoo shows '2.8.7_p1 ~2.8.7_p2 ~2.8.8_pre11 ~2.8.8_pre12',
the last  3  being 'testing', the 1st 'stable'.
I used testing versions of pkgs which I expect to be well-maintained,
eg KDE or Vim, but stable for vital system pkgs, just in case.
That said (smile), I'm still using Lynx-2.8.7-dev12 dated 2008-12-22,
which I installed from downloaded Lynx sources ...
