Gentoo shows '2.8.7_p1 ~2.8.7_p2 ~2.8.8_pre11 ~2.8.8_pre12', the last 3 being 'testing', the 1st 'stable'. I used testing versions of pkgs which I expect to be well-maintained, eg KDE or Vim, but stable for vital system pkgs, just in case.
