This would look messy for anything but maths.
A better approach (assuming it supports sub and sup, and the pages
in question are well formed), would be to use html2ps to convert
the HTML to postscript (and possibly then use ghostscript to image it
on arbitrary pixel addressable printers).
I would note that most maths is actually done as GIFs and the W3C are
trying to produce an XML dialect for setting maths, called MATHML.
nroff/eqn and TeX are long established tools that are much better
than HTML for communicating maths formulae in ASCII.
