So I decided to try my hand with autoconf.  There seems to be little
documentation, so I simply did:

    pg@sanitas:372$ autoconf
    FATAL ERROR: Autoconf version 2.12.971222 or higher is required for this script
    pg@sanitas:373$ 
    pg@sanitas:373$ autoconf --version
    Autoconf version 2.13

Help! is 2.13 less than 2.12.971222?
