You need to have a registered account to do (3). We have had to disable
account creation due to trac's susceptibility to spam accounts. If you'd
like an account created, just email me, and I'll set one up for you.
We do not recommend using LyX 2.5-alpha1 for serious production work.
That said, some of the development team have been using it quite a bit,
and it appears to be reasonably stable, though it will definitely have
some bugs, possibly quite major. Our hope is to identify some of these
now. So what would really help is: Open it up; try doing some of the
things you usually do; try out some of the new features; let us know if
there's a problem.
LyX 2.5-alpha1 will import and export files in the format of LyX 2.4,
but we do not recommend (ever) trying to go back and forth, on a regular
basis, between different major versions. Data is not likely to be lost
(it's a bug if any is), but your files may end up with ERT scattered all
through them.
