Not a solution for you here and now, but this need does bring up a
possible future feature... couldn't we teach LyX to produce .DOC files?
As a starting point, perhaps one might find an existing TeX -> DOC
converter? I don't know .. I'm a dumb user in this arena, the idea just
occurred to me.
