Ok, I'll withdraw the first bug, for the time being anyway. view xdvi is
working fine under 1.1.4pre2. I blame Gremlins!
The second bug, however, still holds. Running with -debug latex:

etc etc
It would appear that LyX is adding white space at the start of each citation.
This is confirmed by exporting to LaTeX and generating the .dvi file manually.
I have to edit the .tex file to remove the space in \cite{ Gresho:Sani}.
Thereafter it works like a charm.
