I apologize if this is already known, but I didn't find any reports of this behavior. It is fairly easy to reproduce. I copied the file Extended.lyx from the doc directory to my home directory to try some export features. As soon as I open the file, it crashes the X server! (Not just lyx.) After dumping the standard output and error into a file, I found that the missing mobius.eps file first causes ghostview errors and then lyx catches an exception and the X server crashes. Here are the last few lines of the output file: Dictionary stack: --dict:950/983(ro)(G)-- --dict:0/20(G)-- --dict:66/200(L)-- Current allocation mode is local Last OS error: 2 Aladdin Ghostscript 6.0: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1 GS [10586] error 256 E:1 1 S:0 0 lyx: SIGHUP signal caught Bye. Under the circumstances it's not easy to run lyx under gdb. For the record, I am running Red Hat 6.1, with gnome and afterstep as the window manager (so it is possible that either gnome or afterstep crash, not X; in any case I am back at the gdm login screen). Also, I installed version 1.1.4.fix2 off an RPM (from the link given in the lyx web cite). Thank you for your time. Vassili -- Vassili Papavassiliou NMSU, Physics Dept.
