Well, I guess it should not be too difficult to obtain the state of a toolbar. Bo will take a look at it.

I think it is much more intuitive compared to an option in the preferences to set a toolbar to auto. How should someone guess what an 'auto' toolbar means?

When it is integrated with the standard toolbar settings, the users will recognize the different toolbar states depending on the context. They also know this from other applications. I think OpenOffice also works this way. Can someone confirm that?

Not if it means importing the whole session stuff, which currently
contains many many changes.

I know, I mean only the toolbar part without the whole session stuff.
