Hi all,
Someone from the user list reported a failed installation of 1.4.3 on
Windows. From his description, I'm pretty sure it was the "official"
installer. The bottom line was that he had zero-length files in the
user home directory (presumably the .lst files and preferences), and it
was cured by running configure.py manually. He believes that the
installer failed while attempting to download something, because he's
behind a firewall/proxy combination. His description was that the
"whole process stopped", leaving the empty configuration files.
I'm not sure I buy this -- AFAIK any downloading is done before the
configuration script runs, and it has to run to create the empty files.
Still and all, it might be worth looking at the question of whether a
firewall or proxy might bollix up the installation beyond the obvious
(not installing some key piece of supporting software).
Passing this along for what it's worth,
/Paul
