That is not LyX's business at all. A decent shell will convert *.lyx to a list of filenames, so LyX will not see the *. I know that that does not work with command.com on windows (but maybe with cmd.exe?), applications are expected to expand the * themselves. Therefore this should go into the wrapper that is used on windows anyway (or do we not use it anymore? I don't know). On Mac and linux expanding *.lyx is not needed, so if this really goes into LyX then it should be done in os::init() in os_win32.C, so that it is well hidden from the rest.

You're right. I've stopped using linux a long ago :-(
