the situation on linux now is even worse than before:
when Alt+letter is hit two quick resize happen ("flickering"), then
menu appears in strange position.
in can only repeat that r24786 was the best here if the alt+m issue could
be solved.
Indeed, I think we are reaching the limits of Qt here...
