What is going on?

I can't reproduce this. I changed the screen zoom, and it responded
right away. Same for disabling RTL.

I can reproduce this on non-linux platforms. It seems that Qt is best
tailored to Linux and Windows as I also experience other slownesses.

For example, the file dialog opens almost instantaneously on Linux
and Windows but, starting from Qt 4.3, it is unbearably slow on Solaris.
If you have a lot of files and you open the file dialog, you can go and
have a coffee before all files are displayed.

In this respect, Qt 4.2.3 is the last version really usable. Maybe this
is due to that FilesystemWatcher thing.
So the prefs slowdown is not reproducible under solaris using Qt4.2?

IIIRC JMarc is using Qt4.2 on linux, or did you upgrade JMarc?

Abdel.
