Ah, I didn't know that one needs to set this option to get LyX's 1.6.x's behaviour. I'll document this. But shouldn't we enable this option by default?
AFAIU Most other devs don't like the synchronous behavior. But we should save the checkbox status in the session settings... I'll try do that when I have some time.
Without this option working with tables is a nightmare as you have to open/close the dialog permanently.
Why that? You can click on the [Restore] button after changing the cursor position; no need to leave the dialog. If you are going to document this (thanks by the way) please note that the asynchronous mode is useful when you want to apply a same config to multiple table cell. You just have to change the cursor position and hit [Apply]; you can do this multiple time for many table cell.
