Against all, unless you convince me this that this option really can't

should be there out of principle, but isn't ever used by the user.

if there was no reson there was no thread.
Well, in principle you are right, we shouldn't do this, but I think that
in practice the user will never notice that we search for a .git or .svn
directory. Therefore there is no reason for the user to turn this off.
