On my OSX 10.7.4 system, gettext (and automake and autoconf) are provided by
Macports and live in /opt/local/bin.
$ gettext --version
gettext (GNU gettext-runtime) 0.18.1
What are the variables that are setup to point to /opt/local/lib ?
Normally, pkg-config could be told to look at this place and find the
proper flags (-liconv) to use when linking.
