Actually, this is the most useful message to me...

Do you mean as a normal user? Personally I often start LyX from command 
line, and having random message about "git --porcelain xxx" when opening 
a doc file is definitely not useful to me. My opinion is that LyX should 
not output any message by default unless there is something wrong.

What is your use case?
