About the version scheme, if this is for the non-technical
audience, it may be easier to avoid technial language, and have:

---
There have been many changes 'under the hood'. From the user perspective,
the most important changes are the reworking of the inset mechanism and
the establishment of GUI/system independece, both of which are in
progress.
---

Also, in the version name example, it may better to continue in order:

O lyx-1.1.6pre1.tar.gar -- potentially unstable test of the 1.1.6 release

instead of mentioning 1.1.5pre1.

Rather that just mention RtL, we should say something like:

---
O Support for writing documents in most European languages, as
well as Right-to-Left languages like Hebrew and Arabic, including
multi-lingual documents.
---

Note: I consider the term 'European language' to include Brazillian
Portuguese, Quebec French and US English. If it is usually taken to mean
'languages spoken by the peoples of Europe' then we should say
'Left-to-Right'.

The item about 'Menus, error ...' should include a link to i18n.php3,
which ideally reflects the translation status of the current release.

Also, the 'Literate Programming' feature may be worth documenting, maybe
in the same line as the SGML-tools [assuming I'm not offending anyone].

Finally, is it desirable to promise additional features?

---
Anticipated features include:

O Support for several GUI toolkits - Xforms, KDE, ...
O Improved multi-lingual support, including Oriental languages [and
unicode?]
O Improved handling of figures and more graphics formats.
O General mechanism to incorporate external material in documents

Would you like me to try to creat (CVS) patches to the web pages?
Lior.
