Uwe, have you though about this in your installer ?
I haven't yet got what the problem is.
The Win installer is designed that one can have parallel installations of
different major LyX releases. E.g. on my PC I have LyX 1.5.x, 1.6.x, 2.0.x
and 2.1beta installed side by side. Therefore the config directories and
files of each version can and should not be used for other LyX versions.

Having multiple versions of LyX should rather be special usecase than
the normal one, but anyway. You never thought about copying the LyX2.0
user preferences to LyX2.1 when installing ?
If not, do you expect people to customize LyX all over again every
time (ok not so often, but you used to have the opinion that all minor
releases should be independent of each other). ?
Wouldn't it be ok, to have the instaler ask: "Do you want to copy your
preferences of the already installed LyX ?"
Vincent
I use Uwe's Windows' installer and currently have 2.0.7 and 2.1.0 beta2
installed side-by-side. I copied my 2.0 preferences over manually to
2.1. It's not a big issue but it would be good to have the option of the
installation process copying the preferences.
