Are you kidding? This is the same issue raised at #9371. In principle, I would agree if there is a problem that cannot be (easily) solved otherwise, but still I have to see this problem. I prefer having good quality previews in a short time. They are previews, so the way they are obtained is irrelevant. You want bad previews produced in a much longer time for ... what? An acceptable compromise would be using the old way for selecting the latex engine if the document does not specify a default output format (disregarding the default output format set in the preferences). -- Enrico
