The idea looks simple at first. But then one has to decide where to install the 
downloaded optionally parts of LyX distribution. One option is to install it 
for every user and don't require admin privileges. The other option is to 
install (and possibly upgrade) them system wide and force to user to acquire 
the appropriate privileges. Or provide the option to choose at install time. 
However, it gets a complicated matter quickly. BTW, on a Mac it's no option to 
add the dictionaries after download to the LyX bundle. A downloaded program 
bundle has to be immutable or it is blocked by the security guards and marked 
as broken package. This would force the installation and lookup of the 
dictionary files at runtime at an alternate location. Perhaps we should stick 
to the current scheme (dictionaries bundled with the LyX package) on Mac until 
a better solution is ready and postpone this for the time after the 2.2 release.
