So I'm following this from afar, and I understand the competing
interests. But I wonder
whether restricting the ability to do this too much will back us into
the problem of people
adding -shell-escape when using packages LyX doesn't directly support.
Obviously, there
is only so much we can do, but providing some mechanism by means of
which people can
turn this on and off easily in a per-document, per-session way makes
some sense to me.
