I agree it is a good idea to discuss specifically what can happen during preview
and what can only happen during export.

I don't know if it is relevant but a year or two ago in response to my
nagging, Enrico made the document name available to preview (as
\jobname). Before that \jobname contained only the name of the preview.
But \jobname does not contain the path (or extension).
