Thank you, Lasgouttes, for your help and rapid turn-around. Much appreciated.
I am a novice user of LyX but a long-term/experienced user of Latex (mostly using TeXShop as an editor). I was attracted to LyX (at last) by the new implementation of Lilypond which seems to work much better in LyX than in any other LaTeX environment I’ve used. 


As an exercise in familiarising myself with LyX, I am trying to import a 
somewhat detailed LuaLaTeX (‘Memoir’) document — NOT a Lilypond 
document — that is entirely a preamble to included latex files. I have 
not tried to import other LaTeX files.



I’ll experiment some more. If I find other crashes I’ll report. But 
on the whole, so far, this seems a pretty robust and capable 
environment.
