I am for keeping the language and set to "french" (works here)

There are 2 reasons here:
1.) I don't have 'Noto Serif Devanagari' installed. Using 'Noto Sans 
Devanagari' makes this error disappear
2.) I don't have  MonomakhUnicode installed. Maybe some other church slavonic 
font would be OK
        Commenting the entry in the preamble makes the test pass.
