Maybe the other way around. FIND -> FINDLONG, FINDSHORT -> FIND
so that --verbose 2 would select FINGLONG.

I am not sure that we need a verbose level yet. What about
-dbg find => FINDSHORT
-dbg find --verbose => FIND
