The MWE compiles fine, but as soon as one uses left alignment on second column,
the
compilation fails with

really didn't forget anything, try typing `2' now; then
my insertion and my current dilemma will both disappear.

As soon as I replace the paragraph separator with ragged line break, it
compiles.
