Michael, you could also grab the scary_eqns.lyx file out of:
http://www.devel.lyx.org/~rae/QAUUG_rae.tar.gz
as it has plenty of different equations you can test with -- the fourth
equation seemed to be triggering problems when I lasted checked (about two
weeks ago).
