For all of my non-American friends on the LyX list:
I work in a city called Danbury, about 75 miles northeast of New York
City. My employer has TV's in the two corporate cafeterias. They
were all tuned to CNN all day yesterday.
Understand that, though I live outside of The City, I have friends and
family all over the metropolitan New York area (my family is okay,
BTW). Since all major roads converge towards Manhattan, visiting any
of my family means driving past that magnificent New York skyline.
The Twin Towers always loomed large in my mind. In fact, anyone my
age who grew up in the NYC area knows and loves those two towers. To
see them collapse live on TV as I did yesterday is... well, I just
can't believe they're gone.
In closing, I offer this thought from one of my nation's founders, Ben
Franklin: "Those who trade Liberty for security will soon find that
they have neither." The only true guarantee of security is vigilance.
