I am thinking about implementing a different kind of spam control, and unless I get strong objections, I will implement it in the next week or so.
The main reason is that there are still at least two-three spams each week slipping into the lyx lists. (Nowadays, there are over 100 spam messages addressed to the lyx lists each day). The main idea is that anybody who posts a message to the lyx lists would have to confirm the post. Now, with the software, it is possible to set up a whitelist so that anybody on the whitelist could post without confirmation. There are various ways to set up the whitelist; the two possible solutions for us 1) Anybody who is a subscriber of a particular list will be in the whitelist automatically. 2) Anybody who sent in a reply to a confirmation will be automatically put on the whitelist. As a starting point, I would choose the 2), especially since the whitelist can be set up so that in addition to permanent members, it can have memberships which expire after a configurable amount of time. The software I am about to use is TMDA, and those interested can read about it at http://software.libertine.org/tmda/ Mate
