BTW why this special-casing anyway? Short-circuiting the branch in
CutAndPaste.C lines 228-256 works just fine for me -- AND eliminates
Bug 221.

Does anybody remember the reason for this special-casing? There
must have been one, but I sure don't see it now...

This is my preferred fix, if we can get away with it :-)
