Indeed that works!!
I found out (by the mail of Andre Poenitz) that \sqcup and \black triangledown 
also don't work unless I do the xset stuff.

Still strange....is the \epsilon the only font not included in the default X 
fonts? 
Isn't it possible for lyx to do a 'xset +fp PATH_TO_YOUR_LYX_FONTS_DIR' when 
starting?
