I have no problems with that.

I do not really have a _desire_ to have "LaTeX mathed stuff". In fact, TeX
is the worst kind of programming language I've ever encountered in my
personal universe (and believe me, there have been a few...), so I am
certainly not sticking to it for academical reason.
The reason I use .tex syntax for math in LyX are threefold:
(a) It has been like that all the time.
(b) My co-workers use .tex, mainly disguised as Scientific Workplace,
so using .tex with LyX must be a no-brainer for me.
(c) I do not know of any software that translates .tex do something
that is easier to interpret than .tex. More specifically, I do not
know of any software that properly translates .tex to any kind of
XML (short of putting everything in a CDATA string).
So if you come up with a simpler solution I'll happily implemnent it.
