I have been using lyx-1.3.4cvs, and notice that in addition to the
Font, there is a new item in the status line at the bottom of LyX,
"Paragraph: nnnn" where nnnn is a fairly large number that increments
as I move from paragraph to paragraph. I assumed the number was the
paragraph or line number in the document, but I am currently editing a
short letter which shows 2526 for the first paragraph, 2538 for the
second, 2539 for the third, and 2541 for the fourth.

What are the numbers after Paragraph: and what do the odd increments
represent?

FWIW, LyX/Mac, built with Qt-3.1.2. Thanks.
