Many thanks to all for your work on Lyx/Mac. I will try the new installer.

In the meantime I may have tracked down the font problem (at least mine anyways)...
The links in LyX.app/Contents/Resources/lyx/xfonts were pointing to locations that did not exist in my tetex installation.
Not sure how this happened. For example they should be something like: cmsy10.pfb -> /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm/cmsy10.pfb, but they were not.

Are these the fonts that LyX actually uses to draw on-screen math?
I will post more details once I convince myself that this was actually the problem.

They definitely did _not_ appear in your earlier version that I tried. In trying to fix the font problems before, I definitely would have noticed all those files.

And they definitely _did_ reappear with the installer I got from ftp. Tried it twice and it happened both times.

OK. I understand what's going on now, and I've created another installer. The new version solves this problem of creating extra folders in ~/Library/Fonts/ and addresses Ronald's concerns about installing things with root ownership. What I've done is to break the installer into two packages, one that installs LyX and cleans up the user's files/folders (without administrative privileges) and another that installs the srcltx and preview packages into the teTeX tree (with administrative privileges).

Note that because the old version installed the LyX application with root privileges, the new LyX-1.3.5 installer may fail mysteriously. Simply delete the old version of the LyX application and try again. (This is noted in the accompanying README file.)

I've posted the (hopefully final!) version here:

Sorry for the trouble with this. Hopefully I've learned enough now not to make these or similar mistakes again. (Funny how a Philosophy degree doesn't help with software distribution!)
