I often use an ancient machine running Tru64 unix as an XServer to more modern hardware running Linux. In the last couple of months I find that Qt and Gtk software (including LyX) on these modern machines runs glacially slowly. lyx-xforms 1.3.5cvs runs as fast as ever. lyx-xforms 1.4.x is *much* slower than 1.3.5 but I have to type quite fast to get a noticable lag before the characters are displayed on the screen. lyx-qt and lyx-gtk 1.4.x are so slow as to be unusable.
The host machine is running a bang up to date Debian unstable distribution. Any ideas why things have got so slow in the last few months? -- Angus
