Funnier than that some of our users using Fedora Core 3 with our patch don't have any problems using ^ to insert an exponent while others (like myself) do have have them. Clearly this is something outside of my time/interest to find the real cause. If it works for you then commit it, all the users here are happy lyx users again ;-). I am happy with it for what is worth :-).
