Do you see the slowness in measurable form? I think it's really the Mac
people that should test this.
Typing ahead of lyx is not a mac-only problem. Try creating
a paragraph that fills the lyx window twice. (The default window
size lyx starts with.) If I type garbage, I can be more than a line ahead
with a 2.4GHz pentium. This paragraph size isn't "unreasonable".
Your patch helps this case, but:
An "unreasonable" 100k paragraph is a pain to write in with
lyx 1.4 cvs. But try lyx 1.3, and it edits the big paragraph as
effortlessly as a half-page document. I can't out-type it or
even create a load spike typing in garbage. And the scrollbar
works as expected too. I'll still be using lyx 1.4 for its
many nice features, but hope any performance-related patches
will go in despite the freeze.
