LyX stores equations in TeX syntax in .lyx files. The parser that is used to read these TeX snippets can not cope well with the syntax of xy-pic, since it is a bit unusual. This is not intended as an excuse, but only as an explanation. Unfortunately André removed xymatrix support in 1.4cvs (I don't know why). I think we should readd it, see also http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2238 I have attached a file with workarounds for the problems above. The procedure I used is simple: If LyX misparses something, define a new command in the preamble (not as math macro - that would not work) and use that. The problematic constructs are then hidden in the new command, and LyX can not interfere anymore. Feel free to add these workarounds to your manual. Georg
