OK, let's take the example that looks the most like a LyX viewer: the
File>Send To submenu. Do you see entries there that are relevant to
uninstalled program? Do I see 'Fax' if I do not have fax software?

No re-configure would be necessary if done right. And the Send To
example works like that.
