Agree...

I think it "looks" native because the interface to the user doesn't go through
the command prompt; however, it is may not a native application. To be
a "native" application it had to go straight to the Windows GUI. In this case,
it goes through X11.

I'll give it a shot!

Is there some http mirror for this path? My sysadmin is somewhat paranoid,
and set up proxies blocking access to anything but http or email (smtp/pop).
You're right, I want to see if your XP/Cygwin compiled LyX runs on top of Win98
(maybe Win95 too).

Now I'm not sure I'm following you. You say you can compile LyX on Cygwin and
make it run *without* the X11 interface? So you say you only use the Cygwin
tree instead of MingW? If that's the case, it may be that your LyX *really* is
a "native" app, but you use Cygwin's shell to run the scripts. If, on the
contrary, you need to install the X11 GUI, but don't have to set it up
manually, then I think you don't really have a *true native* Win app.

In the end, I think it doesn't matter whether it is "true native"
or "naturalized"; as long as it actually works, I'm happy with that.

Thanks!

Luis
