Okay, I'll explore the man page a bit deeper on this.

Everything was updated before I attempted the tag/branch, and the branch
and head are still identical for now.

The branch is needed now. Others have contributed some 1.2.0-specific
changes, and I've had some recent success compiling the CVS versions, so
it is time to start writing for 1.2.0. However, should there be a
1.1.6fix3, I would like to have the worst mistakes in the docs cleaned up
for it (e.g. File->View DVI should be View->DVI, etc.). That is the
intention of 1_1_6-updates.
