I am working on making a print edition of the User's Guide.
It has several references to the Tutorial and other guides. I'd prefer to
include this needed information in the same printed book.
One idea would be to split the book up into different parts -- multiple
books within one printed copy. I assume I could do this by restarting my
page counts and section and chapter counters, but I think the table of
contents and definitely the index would be confusing. (I'd prefer to only
have one table of contents and one index for entire printed book.)
Or maybe just add the material as new chapters. But then I have repeated
and redundant information. As a reader, I usually don't want to be taught
how to do something twice or in different sections.
Or maybe add the extra material in my appendix. But again, I don't want
repeated information.
Instead I am slowly working at merging in any of the Tutorial information
that is missing in the User's Guide into the User's Guide. (I am removing
the practice exercises and "try this" type instructions.)
Also, some of the User's Guide's chapters maybe should be split up. For
example, the "LyX Basics" chapter for me is 40 pages long.
Anyone have any advice or suggestions to share?
I'll make a diff available of all my many changes.
